Curated by the isla Members that make up the isla Materials Library Action Group, this library of materials is designed to help the events industry improve the environmental impact of their events by reducing the use of harmful materials and providing alternative solutions.
Who this is for
- The Materials Library was designed by nine isla member organisations, spanning agencies, suppliers and interior specialists.
- Only 25% of materials currently used in event production come from recycled, reclaimed or hired sources, the remaining 75% is virgin material.
- Each material has been assessed and tested by our team of industry experts and has detailed information on why this may be a less environmentally impactful option.

What you'll find inside
Why Selectivity Matters
Most event materials still come from virgin resources. Shifting to a circular model, where materials are reused, repurposed or recycled, cuts emissions and reduces waste. Zero waste has to be designed in from the start, not managed after the event.
The Assessment Criteria
Materials are assessed on focus, action and impact, backed by specification data and Life Cycle Assessments.
Symbols and Certifications to Know
A visual reference guide to recycling symbols, plastic codes, wood certifications and circular design labels such as Cradle to Cradle, helping readers make informed choices when sourcing materials independently.
The Materials
Nine alternative materials across graphics and panels, surfaces, structural, flooring and finishes, including Dispa, Re-board, Fibrapan Bio, Richlite, Smile Plastics, Honext, ECO-board, Rewind Carpet and Auro Paint, each assessed for durability, recyclability and typical use.
Who's Accountable
Breaks down the role brands, agencies, venues and suppliers each play in shaping material decisions across an event, and points to further tools for measuring impact.
